We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated people to work outside in a customer facing environment. As a relief lock and weir keeper you will be asked to cover up to 8 locks on the River Thames (areas detailed below in additional information). We also have 2 vacancies at Teddington Lock which is operated 24/7 working shift rota 06.00 to 14.00hrs, 14.00 to 22.00hrs, 22.00 to 06.00hrs

Responsibilities include:
• Managing and regulating water levels
• Providing safe passage to boaters and managing activities on and around lock sites and reaches
• Assisting colleagues and customers with local expertise and knowledge to ensure effective management of the navigation of the river
• Looking after lock buildings, facilities and grounds to provide a high-quality, safe and clean environment
• Providing a timely and effective out of hours service and response to incidents
• Maintaining and developing health & safety good practice
• Developing and maintaining a strong customer service and acting as an ambassador for the Environment Agency
• Undertaking enforcement and regulation activities at Level 1 PACE
• Ensuring efficient record keeping and information storage
• Collecting customer payments including licence sales and tolls, and reconciling and managing petty cash.
The Thames Waterways department has a responsibility to manage the navigation of the non-tidal River Thames. This includes 45 lock and weir complexes and our primary aim is to provide a first class service to all our customers. The department comprises lock and weir keepers and support staff in operational, enforcement, commercial and business teams. The roles advertised are based in operational teams and there are several vacancies at lock sites across the river.

We have vacancies in the following areas: Lechlade to Oxford, Oxford to Abingdon, Clifton to Sonning, Reading to Maidenhead as well as at Teddington Lock. Those not working out of Teddington Lock will be required to work to a daytime rota which includes weekends.
Outer London weighting and additional allowances will be payable to successful applicants filling the Teddington Lock vacancies.

Full training will be given once in post.
