The Environment Agency is a non-departmental public body accountable to Parliament through ministers. Our duties include the regulation of industries across England that use and dispose of radioactive substances, both within the nuclear and non-nuclear sectors. As an independent regulatory authority it is our job to protect people and the environment by regulating how radioactive wastes are managed and disposed of.

Representing the Environment Agency to the nuclear industry, other regulators, and the public, your work will help ensure the safe management and disposal of radioactive waste from over 60 years of nuclear operations.
Working in our Nuclear Waste Assessment Team, you will use your in-depth knowledge in this field to provide specialist technical support. You’ll work alongside our site regulators, as well as a range of external bodies, to assess proposals and safety cases for radioactive waste disposal facilities and for managing higher activity radioactive wastes.
You’ll need:
• Technical expertise in nuclear waste management and disposal
• Relevant experience as a technical consultant or with a nuclear operator
• A science/engineering degree
• A talent for communicating to both expert and non-technical audiences
While you will be predominantly desk-based, you will, when needed, travel to sites across the UK and occasionally abroad.

For further details about the role please contact Rob Allott on Tel: 07818015491 or by email: rob.allott@environment-agency.gov.uk.
