We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join the Chemical Compliance Team (CCT) within Waste Industry and Regulatory Services (WIRS), part of National Services E&B.
You will provide technical leadership to ensure the team carry out compliance work that is effective and delivers the best outcome for the environment in line with Defra’s 25 year plan.
You will be the interface between the team, internal departments and partner organisations and build relationships to ensure decisions are made on sound technical grounds.
A key part of the role is to lead compliance campaigns which may involve thinking outside the box to ensure we target the highest risk operators. This may identify offences which may lead to enforcement work.
You will have a high level of written and oral communication skills, and be able to influence and negotiate with a wide range of internal and external customers. A key part of the compliance campaigns is ensuring the target industry receives effective and consistent communication messages.
You will have exceptional interpersonal skills; capable of leading the team, coaching others and being an expert in the regulations. You will be a strong team player with good planning skills.
Waste Industry and Regulatory Services (WIRS) deliver a variety of technical, administrative and compliance related activities across several regulatory regimes to help protect and improve the environment.

The Chemical Compliance Team ensure compliance with chemical legislation including: REACH Enforcement Regulations, Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulations, PCB Regulations.

Chemicals regulation features heavily in Defra’s 25 year plan and with the recent launch of the Chemicals Programme within the Environment Agency it’s an exciting place to be.
• Ability to plan and deliver a range of activities.
• Work with Team Leader to secure required levels of resource and highlight resilience issues.
• Coach and mentor staff.
• Good team player
• Possession of a Level 2 warrant or a willingness to work towards this
• Experience of compliance and enforcement work is desirable
• Sound political awareness
• Ability to work with a variety of people and build effective relationships
• Promote cross regime working within the department and promote a culture of ‘one team’.
The job will working within WIRS within Operations Regulatory Service based with other EA National teams at Sheffield. Some national (and possibly international) travel is required.
