These are key posts in the area Analysis and Reporting team. The duties include leading on the reporting of our environmental data to customers internally and externally so that the right decisions can be made on measures to improve and protect the water environment in East Midlands. This role will play a key part in shaping the way we do monitoring going forward with SMR, liaising with catchment co ordinators, IEP and external partners. This is a role for someone who really understands ecological data and can analyse and report it clearly and effectively. This post holder will also be a trainer and mentor to grade 3 A&R staff and will lead on pollution investigations, project assessments and catchment working for a designated geographical area. This work is vital for driving our ability to continue to be an evidence based organisation.
As a team we provide support to environment management, fisheries and water resource activities undertaken in our area. We deliver a vital service providing evidence and investigations that underpin the Environment Agency’s statutory responsibilities regarding river basin planning and management. The team also provides quality environmental data and advice to external partners and customers.
We’re seeking candidates with detailed ecological knowledge and significant environmental monitoring experience both office based and in the field. You will have proven capabilities in data and information management, achieving results, taking decisions and solving problems. You will be qualified with relevant degree or vocational training in a science related discipline and possess proven ability and/or knowledge of:
• environmental monitoring of rivers and lakes;
• field-based data acquisition capabilities – such as environmental data, macro-invertebrate samples, macrophyte surveys, and electro-fishing surveys;
• laboratory analysis of ecological samples – algae and mixed taxon level identification of macro-invertebrates to quality assured standards;
• data management, understanding of ecological, chemical and fisheries data including interpretive tools, indices and databases, ability to use GIS and multi-functional reporting all with attention to data quality;
• excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an awareness of health & safety best practice.
