We are looking for a motivated and pro-active individual who can contribute to the field and office based delivery of hydrometric monitoring within the Southern part of Thames area.

The role will require you to use your initiative, work independently and prioritise work effectively.

You will be required to work equally from the field and office, responding to instrument faults, and carrying out data quality assurance both on site and in our data archive.

There will be the opportunity to lead small projects to improve site performance, install new monitoring stations or collect data for customer led investigations.

As part of a lively and reactive team, key traits for the ideal candidate are flexibility and adaptability to changing demands.
The area Hydrometry and Telemetry team are responsible for the monitoring and collection of ground and surface water, as well as rainfall data from sites across Surrey, Berkshire and North Hampshire. We collect key data and information that is used by internal teams across the area as well as external customers. We deliver a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency’s statutory responsibilities relating to flood risk management and water resource management.
You will ideally have a scientific or environmental background and be educated to at least A-level standard or equivalent. You will be passionate about the environment and enjoy using your skills to make a difference. With strong practical problem solving skills, you will be experienced in managing large quantities of data. Practical experience of working with scientific instrumentation or overseeing mechanical or electrical installations would be advantageous.

You will be working as part of a field and office team who work closely together, but the nature of the fieldwork means that you will be often required to work alone, in all weather conditions and at potentially remote locations.

Good communication skills will be required for interactions within the team; and with both internal and external customers.
