This is an exciting time to join our fantastic Hydrometry and Telemetry Team across Devon and Cornwall where our work makes a difference. We provide high quality, and timely level, flow, groundwater, and rainfall data to protect people and properties, environment and ensure we manage our water resources effectively. The data we collect shapes the decisions and operations of the Environment Agency and is utilised far and wide.

You will be responsible for the delivery of Telemetry Services across Devon Cornwall and The Isles of Scilly, based in either Exeter or Bodmin and working across the whole area. The role will involve collating our work programme, managing our telemetry system and network of outstations. A large part of this role will be coordinating and implementing the design and installation of monitoring and telemetry across debris screens as part of a ten-year improvement project.

You will shape the management of the network drive innovation and build links with our internal and external partners. You will provide mentoring and training and inspire our staff as well as managing projects and looking after our webcam network.

Working alongside the Team Leaders, Technical specialists to deliver a timely and consistent roll out of site maintenance and upgrades across our network of 600 sites you will provide guidance to the team on complex telemetry issues and drive innovation. You will provide an excellent response to incident management, ensuring a robust and resilient network with a high degree of operability and flexibility.

This roll provides a strategic overview of our network, and you will be required to attend and organise meetings and training as well as travelling to remote monitoring locations to provide repairs and installations. You will be responsible for ensuring our compliance to industry best practice as well as our electrical code of compliance.

We are seeking some one with a positive attitude, who is dynamic and thinks outside the box, wants to make a difference with a passion for analysis and problem solving.
You must have a practical electronics background with an understanding of communications protocols including Modbus, Ethernet, and SDI-12. The ability to design and construct electronic installations and to successfully install them will be essential. Environment Agency electrical authorisation A or equivalent would be highly desirable. Knowledge of instrumentation, fault finding, and the ability to engineer solutions would be advantageous to this role.
