We’re looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and highly organised individual to support and coordinate the work of the South West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee (RFCC).
You will be responsible for providing an efficient Secretariat support service to the SWRFCC, working with the Committee Chair, the Area Director, Area FCRM Manager, technical officers, and RFCC Secretariat network.
Key activities will include:
● Secretariat for all Committee meetings and subgroups, arranging meetings, compiling papers, taking minutes, and following up on actions.
● Building relationships with the Committee Chair, members and external stakeholders.
● Providing a central point of contact for engagement with Committee members.
● Recruitment and induction of new members to the Committee, and their learning and development.
● Overall governance of the Committee in line with relevant legislation, and Defra Cabinet Office guidelines
The Committee plays a pivotal role in managing flood risk, working with all Risk Management Authorities to promote efficient, targeted and risk-based investment that optimises value for money and benefits for local communities.

This role sits within the Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly FCRM Programme Team and forms a core part of a virtual team working with the Committee Chair, the Area Director, Area FCRM Manager, technical officers, and RFCC Secretariat network. We are a friendly group passionate about enabling and reporting upon the delivery of flood risk management across DCIS to create better places for people and wildlife, and support sustainable development.
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate they are highly organised and are comfortable working independently. You will be confident in delivering a high-quality service under time pressure and are able to meet deadlines. You’ll need to have excellent communication and minute-taking skills, be able to build strong working relationships, and will be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint).
Ideally, you will have experience of supporting a group, Board or Committee, and in document and data management and SharePoint.
A full driving licence is required for attendance at meetings.
RFCC minutes are public documents and, therefore, good minute-taking skills are essential.

This role is currently being carried out as a hybrid arrangement between office and home-based working, with a phased return to offices. Travel will be required between Exeter, Bodmin and elsewhere for external meetings.
