As our lead Illegal Waste Sites (IWS) investigator, you will be a first responder to complaints of illegal waste operations throughout the western part of our East Anglia area.

You will use your experience of dealing with criminals to pursue suspects with the aim of shutting down operations and bringing offenders to justice. You will be responsible for tracking, monitoring and building intelligence on Illegal Waste Sites so will be active out in the field making enquiries and gathering evidence day to day.

You will also have the necessary inter-personal skills to build strong working relations, both inside the organisation and externally with partners such as the police and local authorities. Importantly, you will be used to dealing with suspects and be able to handle confrontation confidently.

You will also work closely with other investigators in the Enforcement Team via a Tasking and Co-ordination Group (TCG) process on large criminal enquiries so work will be varied. You may be taking witness statements one day and involved in a covert surveillance operation the next.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. The team is responsible for investigating illegal waste sites and other serious environmental crime across East Anglia. Our focus is mainly on waste crime but also on other serious crime linked to environmental permit breaches or pollution of water, land and air. You will join a dedicated and experienced team of investigators and support staff who work closely with our internal regulatory teams and partner agencies such as the police, HMRC and local authorities.
Essential:
• Extensive criminal investigation experience and knowledge of the legislation that underpins criminal investigatory procedures.
• Self-reliant and able to manage own workload with minimal supervision (after training)
• Like working outside, excellent inter-personal skills and a team player who is also self-motivated.
• IT literate with experience of using of police (or similar) case management systems and intelligence databases
• A full driving licence is a requirement as regular travel across East Anglia is needed.

You must also pass security vetting to Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) level 2 (full) – after appointment.

You will be willing to undertake specialist/or further training when necessary.
