As the South London Land & Water Team Leader you will have a unique opportunity to deliver environmental outcomes across the capital, including leading water quality regulation on the River Thames through London. In this role you will support the development of your team to regulate the water industry, the agricultural sector and manage our response to environmental incidents.

You will lead a team of Environment Officers and specialists playing a critical role in building and managing internal and external relationships. You will support your team by prioritising workload and providing leadership and direction for the team and whilst leading an area-wide portfolio on water quality regulation. This role needs great influencing and customer skills alongside the ability to deliver through others in regulation, engagement, and where needed enforcement. You will provide briefings to senior managers alongside Government departments and external partners.

As part of the Water, Land & Biodiversity business group you will work with local and national colleagues to ensure your teams’ work is integrated, planned and outcome focussed. As a leader you will be expected to deliver in a way that promotes diversity and supports the health, safety and wellbeing of your team.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The South London Land & Water team regulate water resources, water quality, agricultural sector and respond to environmental incidents in diverse catchments across South London, Surrey and Kent. The team alongside 2 other Land & Water teams locally to deliver in environmental outcomes through portfolio and catchment working. The team are part of the wider Water, Land & Biodiversity (WLB) working group to deliver integrated outcomes for the water environment.
You will have experience of people leadership and possess a passion for developing your team to deliver outcomes.

This role will require you to:

• Motivate and inspire your teams, providing leadership and direction
• Prioritise team and portfolio led activities to deliver alongside environmental incident management
• Embrace team working, value diversity and develop your team and support team members in achieving their full potential.
• Be committed to ensuring our teams are safe and well, ensuring the provision of safe working practices
• Manage the performance of your team and support team members through change.
• Demonstrate well-developed communication skills to engage, Influence and persuade internal partners and external customers regarding complex and often high public interest issues.
The role will be based in Abbey Wood in South-East London and interviews will be held in June. The role will involve a mix of office and home working. You will need to travel across Kent and South London for internal and external meetings and to support your teams work in the field. This role attracts outer London weighting of £1929 per annum.
