We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven and adaptable person to join our Devon Asset Performance team. We perform an essential role in ensuring that our flood risk assets are maintained to the required standard and ensuring people and property are protected from flooding.

Your work will help the Environment Agency repair, maintain and manage our flood risk assets and deliver river maintenance across the area. The work is varied and will include supporting our team with data and financial management, issuing work, asset inspection, as well as maintenance of the Environment Agency’s range of flood risk structures including penstocks, flood walls, embankments, gates, trash screens, culverts and pumping stations. You will deal with a range of internal colleagues, as well as dealing with the public and external organisations.

Typical tasks will include:

•Visual inspections of assets.
•Identifying and recording defects.
•Monitoring degradation and identifying associated risks.
•Meeting members of the public and professional partners to gain access to structures.
•Answering simple questions and queries as you go about your work.
•Helping to improve out data by correcting mistakes or filling gaps.
•Gain an insight into professional asset management and help us improve further.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment depending on the role and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
You’ll work in an experienced and friendly team of Asset Performance staff. Our Asset Performance teams are responsible for the overall performance of flood and coastal erosion risk management assets.
Appreciation of environmental issues and Health and Safety is desirable as we consider these in all that we do. A great deal of our work is generated using information technology, an ability to use hardware and software is important, and knowledge of GIS or CAD is helpful. An understanding of flood and costal erosion risk management assets and their asset lifecycle would be beneficial.

In summary, you should have:

• Understanding of Engineering and/or practical experience (civil, mechanical/electrical) is desirable, but not essential
• Safety, Health & Environment awareness
• Comfortable using information technology and associated software
• Good communication skills to develop relationships with internal and external customers, colleagues
• Deliver work by planning, tracking, gathering, and maintaining data/information
