We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive individual to join the Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) Chemical Compliance team within Waste Industry and Regulatory Services (WIRS), part of Operation Regulatory Services (ORS).

The work will assess regulatory compliance, ensuring PCB contaminated equipment is decommissioned and disposed of correctly.

You will support the Senior Technical Officers in the team to deliver compliance campaigns and enforcement action. Compliance will be assessed through audits, site inspections and desk top monitoring. You will also be involved in ensuring the target industry receives effective and consistent communication messages.

With excellent, diverse communication skills, and be able to communicate and negotiate with a wide range of internal and external customers. You will have excellent interpersonal skills; able to work independently and as part of a team. This role provides the successful candidate with opportunities for growth and onward development.

Your role will include:

• researching and gathering information to inform the priorities of compliance activities
• organising audits and visits
• Accompanying senior officers to site inspections/audits
• answering customer enquiries
• assessing information and data generated by inspections and audits
• collating reports and data
• supporting communications to industry
• managing the PCB registration process and database

This is a national post covering sites across England. Occasional travel and overnight stays may be required.
WIRS is an ambitious, inclusive department consisting of experienced and knowledgeable regulatory and technical staff. We deliver a variety of technical and compliance related activities across several regulatory regimes; helping to protect and improve the environment. We provide environmental guidance and regulation across the UK and internationally.
Key areas of work are, chemical compliance and regulation, pollution inventory, hazardous waste, waste tracking, and regulatory returns for waste management.

The job will be working within WIRS within Operations Regulatory Service (ORS) based with other EA National teams at Sheffield.
