The Environment Agency work in partnership with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to manage the impacts of climate change, perhaps the most serious long-term threat to the environment, people, and wildlife that we face.

In this role you will be responsible for ensuring the principles of enforcement governance are upheld across the Kent & South London area.

Including:

• Maintain an overview of area and national priorities to facilitate timely and professional enforcement actions
• Provide professional support and guidance on interventions and tools to enable the delivery of efficient decision making
• Assist officers in the production of investigation plans and risk assessments and oversee delivery
• Help to assess the complexity of investigations and work across the wider enforcement community and with the National Enforcement Service on the most serious investigations/priorities
• Work with individuals and teams to identify the nature and scale of specialist resources needed for investigations
• Provide a vital conduit across the area and wider community, ensuring awareness of investigations and civil sanctions with reputational or public interest implications, and helping to shape important communications
• Monitor data to coordinate the Enforcement Governance Group and provide reporting information across the wider enforcement community
Based in secure offices at Medway House, Tonbridge, the Enforcement Team has oversight of all enforcement action in the Kent, South London and East Sussex area.

The team ensures activity is taken consistently and in accordance with Environment Agency procedures and crime priorities. Focussing on illegal waste activity, the team deals with the most serious and complex cases and works closely with other areas on significant cross-border investigations.
• You will have managed serious/complex criminal investigations and have experience of contributing to strategies on the detection and prevention of crime
• Working understanding of regulatory and investigative legislation as well as experience of governance of investigations and working with multiple response options
• You will be proficient in dealing with significant sets of data and can provide clear and concise information reports both in writing and verbally
• Part of the role requires the coordination of the Enforcement Governance Group and so experience of running and chairing meetings is also desirable

It would be desirable for you to have experience of our in-house Incident and Case Management systems, as well as the standard suite of Microsoft programs. However, experience of other relevant software and/or your transferable skills is just as relevant and important to us.

A full driving licence desirable
This is an area wide role and base location is flexible as you will be expected to work across functions. Regular travel across the area is likely to help deliver the role successfully.
