We are looking for a Senior Evidence Advisor to join the Integrated Assessment and Evaluation (IAE) team in the Chief Scientist’s Group. This role leads a team and provides evidence to support decision-making across the Environment Agency. We synthesize multiple sources of information and develop influential narratives for the business.

You will be joining the Regulated Business team in IAE. A large part of the team’s work is to deliver the annual cross-function Regulating for people, the environment and growth report (www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulating-for-people-the-environment-and-growth). We are also working on building natural capital principles and evaluation into regulated industry work, support work on water evidence and deliver some ad-hoc requests.

The team uses a wide range of skills including data analysis and presentation, synthesis and consensus building, writing for gov.uk, evaluation, literature searches and visualisation techniques. You will need to be able to lead and support a small team to deliver important projects, reports and materials intended for external publication, and to develop new work or projects. A critical part of this role is product development, co-design and co-delivery, and you will need to be able to influence effectively and network across the business.
You will be joining a dispersed team who have significant experience developing evidence to support decision making. You will be expected to work collaboratively across the Evidence, Assessment and Evaluation teams, the newly formed Natural Capital Ecosystem Assessment Programme, and contribute to the wider Chief Scientist’s Group.

Our team promotes an inclusive culture and we hope to receive applications from diverse backgrounds including disabled, LGBTQ+, Black Asian and Minority Ethnic, and neuro-diverse colleagues.
We are looking for someone with sound leadership and management skills. You will have a proven ability to collaborate and deliver - working with others in an integrated way and making best use of networks.

You will have strong influencing and communication skills, be able to promote the value of our work to others and be a creative thinker who can help develop new products that add value to the business.

Experience leading work areas and delivering high profile work, with a good understanding of managing the reputational risks that involves, would be an advantage.

Knowledge covering regulated industry and water evidence with some understanding of evaluation techniques and natural capital would be ideal. But some technical support and steer will be available from other teams.

You will need to be able to learn quickly, develop proposals, and work comfortably in subject areas where you may not be an expert.
If you have questions, or want to find out more about the role then please get in touch with Susan Casper (susan.casper@environment-agency.gov.uk) 07796 941599. (From 19th September.)

CVs/documents attached to your application will not be assessed for selection.

Interviews will be held remotely by MS teams.

Please note we run a capability-based recruitment process.. Your answers to the capabilities/questions will be used for interview selection. Please draw out your skills and experience in your answers, including both what you have done, and how you have gone about it.

You can find the EA’s Capability Dictionary at https://tinyurl.com/4mfc8xuj or by searching on google.

We hope to interview in mid October.
