This is a great time to join the Strategy, Transformation & Assurance (STA) Directorate, as we continue to transform our enabling business services & national once solutions to deliver effective and efficient outcomes for the Environment Agency. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Risk & Assurance, you’ll be responsible for development, delivery and oversight of frameworks and enabling business services for risk & assurance; that are grounded in best practice & standards, fulfil legal & policy requirements, and drive continuous improvement.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for:

Developing, implementing and enabling Risk & Assurance Frameworks and services that enable delivery of our corporate strategy and business operating model, through an effective programme approach to delivery.

Influencing externally into other departments (including Defra) and internally within the organisation (including senior leaders) to ensure the delivery of consistent Risk & Assurance frameworks enable best risk management & assurance practice.

Successful partnership working, providing and seeking high level advice, expert guidance, and judgement to inform decision making for the business and mitigate organisational risks, maintaining and enhancing the Environment Agency’s reputation.

Working with a wide network of colleagues to ensure that frameworks & services are developed in accordance with co-designed principles, and that services are delivered, embedded and assured effectively.

Championing and removing barriers to innovation, leading by example, providing leadership across the EA to manage change well and drive a culture that actively looks for better ways to drive results

This Risk & Assurance role sits within Strategy Planning & People in the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance Directorate. The team lead:

Our corporate frameworks for risk management and assurance

Deliver a programme of assurance (2nd line defence)

Oversight of internal corporate policy and controls including management of whistleblowing, fraud & conduct.

The team work with colleagues and senior leaders from across the whole business including Legal and Defra corporate services.
We are looking for a leader who has a good track record of successful delivery, who can demonstrate their effectiveness in working in partnership with others. We would love to hear from people who:

Can provide inspiring leadership, and have experience in leading organisational ‘once’ delivery approaches typically in enabling business and support services environment

Are confident communicators and can influence others to drive business improvements

Have experience of leading successful programme / project delivery, including leadership of risk & budget management

Have people management experience, including managing breadth and depth of expertise

Have experience of navigating complex business environment and influencing peers and managers and bringing colleagues along with them

Work collaboratively across multiple teams and departments and deliver through others

Are confident and experienced in using governance in appropriate, timely and effective ways

Work on your own initiative while maintaining effective communication with stakeholders and senior leaders
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This is a national role so there is flexibility on location, although the successful candidate can be based at any Environment Agency office. Some travel will be required.
