As a Flood Risk Modeller working in Strategic Delivery, you’ll be responsible for providing the evidence to deliver this strategy as part of the wider Evidence and Risk team.
You will:
• Develop, analyse, review, and assure the hydraulic and hydrological model evidence that underpins a range of flood risk reduction schemes, national infrastructure, and sustainable development.
• Lead, coach and nurture an establishing centre of excellence for modelling, putting your own development at the heart of what we do.
• Communicate complex flood risk analyses and uncertainty to internal and external stakeholders.
• Advise on the most appropriate tools and techniques for hydrological and hydraulic modelling approaches.
• Develop industry-leading research and guidance to shape the future of flood modelling.
• Promote inclusion by understanding and respecting differences in our workforce.
• Develop a positive health, safety, and wellbeing culture.
• Foster innovation to adapt ways of working to become more efficient and sustainable.

Strategic Delivery sits within Evidence and Risk in Incident Management and Resilience.
We are the Environment Agency’s lead experts in flood hydrology and modelling, forecasting, mapping, and analytics. We ensure that the right evidence is available to the right people at the right time to enable better, safer decisions.

You will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:
Expert knowledge and leadership in flood modelling and hydrology.
Experience with flood modelling software, such as Flood Modeller, TuFLOW, Infoworks ICM.
Experience in data processing and management, coding skills (e.g. Python, R, etc.) and Geographical Information System (GIS) software packages.
Mentoring and coaching skills, as well as a commitment to continuous development.
Ability to work alone, as well as part of team, to make decisions and solve problems.
Excellent communication skills, particularly of complex problems to non-expert audiences.
A curious, open, and inclusive mindset, with a commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity.
Influencing and persuading skills.
