We are looking for an Environment Planning & Engagement (EPE) Business Manager for 18 months with the ability to deliver innovative, professional services that are responsive to our internal and external customers, enabling the area to provide great outcomes and value for money. You will champion the smooth running of Yorkshire and will support our people to be the best they can be. You will be experienced at achieving business outcomes, improving business planning and performance, and striving towards excellence in operational delivery.

You will support the leadership team to drive forward plans set out by the business. Providing strategic assurance across the department and the area. Building relationships with other departments, Areas, Hub, and national teams delivering the Environment Agency and Yorkshire priorities.

Our people are fundamental to successfully creating a better place and you will lead the Area in creating a great place to work in terms of safety, well-being, equality, diversity, and inclusion. You will also lead on workforce planning for the whole area.

You will also be responsible for customer enquiries, correspondence, and strategic engagement. Leading this aspect of work will ensure our customers receive a professional and timely service and that our external engagement is focused on where the Environment Agency can make the most difference.

You’ll need to be a proactive problem solver, able to manage a broad portfolio and help the business thrive. You will need to be a self-starter with excellent influencing and relationship skills. Organised, confident, collaborative, capable and caring about our people, customers, and the environment.

You will be directly leading a small team responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the area, working with others to ensure our finances, business plans, workforce plans, outcomes and successes are clear.
You will work closely with the EPE Planning Manager and will also form an essential part of our Area Leadership Team, providing forward thinking and strategic direction to Yorkshire Area.

You will lead the following teams: Correspondence and Engagement; Management Support and Enquiries; and the area’s Business Office – comprising Executive Co-ordination Managers, Area Income Advisor, Area Assurance Lead and Recruitment Officer.
• You will be an experienced and effective leader with proven inclusive leadership abilities to enable a diverse workforce to thrive and develop.
• You will have significant understanding of the Environment Agency’s business, our processes, and systems.
• A strong understanding of the governance and roles of all parts of the EA will be beneficial.
• You will have an ability to deliver results through others.
• Well-organised/ focused; work can be reactive and varied so a flexible work style/pace is essential.
• The ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.
• Leading organisational change.
• Working with local and national teams on delivering efficiencies and continuous improvement. As a leader you’ll be committed to developing yourself and those around you, providing a positive role model who can create an open, inclusive, and trusting culture.
This role will be based in Yorkshire and will require some travel to other offices.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity during an incident.
