Thank you for your interest in the role of Environment Programme Team Leader for Cumbria and Lancashire.

This is an exciting time to join a team who are integral to achieving the ambition of the Government’s Plan for Water. The environment, nature, climate and water management are now mainstream issues for society and there is an opportunity to build further on existing progress.

This is principally a leadership role where you will be responsible for team development, culture, and overall delivery. However, your leadership will have a wider reach than just the team; you will have a presence and impact across Cumbria and Lancashire and across national networks. This will also include leadership on topics important to the Environment Agency such as diversity and equality, and incident response.

Working alongside the team’s programme manager you will ensure that funding is used effectively to improve the natural environment, fisheries and water resources - and that this is achieved through effective partnership working.

Much of the team's success is due to developing strong relationships and good communication. There will be times where you will need to support the team or represent the Environment Agency externally with partners, customers or the media.
The team has two main roles; to oversee the investment of public money to improve lakes, rivers and coastal areas for the benefit of nature and communities; and to facilitate partnership working – both externally and internally.
Operating across the fantastic area of Cumbria of Lancashire there are huge opportunities for the team to make a positive impact. This could be from the urbanised rivers of the industrial North-West to the wilder catchments Cumbria.
• Excellent leadership skills, with a track record of building and developing a high functioning team to deliver key environmental outcomes.
• Can build relationships when times are good and when times are hard; comfortable with communication with a wide range of audiences
• Experience of programme and project management.
• Excellent networking skills with experience of raising a team’s profile internally and externally to improve integrated ways of working.
• Sound knowledge of the environmental pressures impacting on our water environment.
• Problem solving and influencing skills to achieve desired outcomes with diverse customers and partners.
• Experience of embracing and adapting to new environmental funding schemes and embracing opportunities to get the most for the local environment.
• The ability to manage complex budgets and resources.
• A proven track record of promoting a diverse organisation and taking action to put people first and celebrate difference.
The Environment Agency is committed to a culture of inclusion. We welcome applications from all members of our community. We support flexible working, so please clearly include your preferred working arrangements on your application.

You will be given all of the training and support needed to succeed as well as funded access to further academic/professional qualifications.

The role will be contractually based at one of our area offices, although through recent times we have developed a more flexible approach to remote working. On occasion you may be required to travel to Environment Agency offices and other locations. For questions relating to this role, please contact Andy Brown andy.brown@environment-agency.gov.uk.

Interviews will take place on April 3rd.
