This role is a great opportunity to join the PSO team, in a fast paced and dynamic part of the Environment Agency's business. As a PSO officer you will have the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of work packages. The main focus of the role will be delivering the several hundred planning applications and flood risk activity permits. This work is the front line of ensuring developments are not at flood risk and do not increase flood risk for anyone else. The role will also support our delivery of key flood risk management schemes and therefore will form a critical part of our delivery of the national 300,000 properties better defended target. The role will include training as a Senior User for our projects and will support our important partnerships with the many Risk Management Authorities who we work with to reduce flood risk to the communities we serve.
The PSO team are at the centre of all our flood risk management activities. We manage the data required to assess flood risk and impact, including handling over 1000 requests for information every year. In addition to ensuring planned developments do not increase flood risk, the PSO team also grants flood risk activity permits for all works that could increase flood risk. The team is also responsible for project management of key FCRM schemes.
The successful candidate will have a background in Flood Risk Management, planning or permitting coupled with an attention to detail and a strong team ethic. As the role will involve working with external partners, the successful candidate will be confident and be able to balance the needs of our organisation with the demands or the varied RMAs we work with.
The available posts are permanent with one being full time and the other part time.
