This is an exciting opportunity to support the Waste Regimes Operational Services (WROS) team in delivering outcomes funded by the National Enforcement Services (NES) Additional Waste Crime Fund (AWFC) programme, to 31 March 2020.

Focusing on prevention & disruption of illegal waste exports at recycling sites; the approach will not occur at ports but is aimed to stop illegal waste at site prior to export; upstream at Material Facilities (MF).

You will lead a dispersed team to use an intelligence led approach working in partnership with regime teams; Annex VII project team, Producer Responsibility Regulatory Services, Material Facilities team, International Waste Shipments team, and NES, to deliver joined up outcomes. Provide viable responses to public and political concern around our management of Green List (Annex VII) waste exports.

Your team will strategically plan visits to sites taking decisions in partnership with the Support & Delivery Operations Manager, the WROS Investigations team & NES where scale/scope of intervention requires partnership working and/or escalation.

You will develop the team; ensuring strong team relationships formed, supporting and promote one team working with other departments to achieve joined up outcomes. You will also provide performance progress reports to the Operations Manager.
The WROS team established in April 2019 following a restructure of our frontline delivery, consisting of experienced and knowledgeable Regulatory Officers/Senior Technical Officers in Pan Area Teams/National teams, who you will be working with closely. Part of the Support and Delivery Team, support function within WROS, which is where the WROSI team also are.

Your team consists of 4 Regulatory Officers that will be dispersed, and approximately 3 temporary members of staff based at Sheffield.
We are looking for an individual with the following skills / experience:
• You should have some experience of leading people and delivering results through others, but this could have been achieved through other non-team leader roles.
• Ability to give clear direction on priorities and objectives to achieve desired outcomes.
• You understand the importance of teamwork and collaboration both within the Environment Agency, and with our partners and customers.
• Have well developed interpersonal, influencing and communication skills.
• A methodical work approach will an ability to follow governance and procedure.
• Experience in intelligence, enforcement or regulation are advantageous but not essential.
The base location for this role is Sheffield but you will occasionally need to travel to other locations for meetings. A flexitime scheme is available.
