We are looking for two enthusiastic, proactive individuals to join the Chemical Compliance Team (CCT) within Waste Industry and Regulatory Services (WIRS), part of National Services E&B.

With scheduled legislative changes to Persistent Organic Pollutant Regulations and requirements of 2025 Stockholm Convention, we‘re recruiting a small team of officers. Their work will assess regulatory compliance, ensuring Polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) contaminated equipment is decommissioned and disposed of correctly.

You will become an expert in the regulations, leading compliance campaigns and enforcement actions. Compliance will be assessed through audits, site inspections and desk-based monitoring through our registration process. Innovative thinking is required to ensure we effectively target high risk operators.

You will be the interface between the team, internal departments, partner organisations and registrants; building effective relationships to influence the best environmental outcome. Ensuring the target industry receives effective and consistent communication messages is vital to this role.

As a senior member of the team you will support the team leader with resource planning and be a role model to other team members in how you innovate, plan and deliver work.

This is a national post covering sites across England. Regular travel and overnight stays are required.
WIRS deliver a variety of technical and compliance related activities across several regulatory regimes; helping to protect and improve the environment. These roles will be part of the existing Chemical Compliance Team who ensure compliance with chemical legislation (PCBs, Mercury, REACH and Persistent Organic Pollutants).

Chemical regulations features heavily in Defra’s 25 year plan and with the recent launch of the Environment Agency’s Chemicals Programme, it’s an exciting place to be.

• Experience of compliance and enforcement work, including issuing notices
• Experience of assessing compliance through site inspections and/or audits
• Level 2 warrant or a willingness to work towards this
• Ability to plan and deliver a range of activities
• Ability to work with Team Leader to secure required levels of resource and ensure resilience.
• Able to coach and mentor staff
• Sound political and environmental awareness
• Ability to work with a variety of people and build effective relationships
• Promote cross-regime working and a culture of ‘one team’.
• Knowledge of PCBs and/or high voltage electrical equipment
• Understanding of Duty of Care responsibilities and hazardous waste
• Full driving licence

Salary: £34,879
