We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to lead a team in a very exciting and dynamic part of the business. Illegal waste exports is a current strategic priority crime type for the EA attracting high profile attention from government, media, national and international stakeholders.

You will work closely with senior technical and criminal intelligence staff along with the function manager to lead, inspire, motivate and set clear direction for a growing dispersed team, dedicated to the detection, prevention and investigation of illegal waste exports.

You’ll be a strong experienced leader, with the ability to be versatile and innovative in approach, seek efficiencies and the sharing of best practice wherever possible, ensuring continuous improvement in how we respond to emerging threat, risk and harm. Influencing and working collaboratively with external partners and internal teams will be key, as well as ensuring a focus on H&S, performance and delivery.

This demanding role provides significant high profile opportunities to the post holder.
The Illegal Waste Export Team sits within Intelligence & Partnerships (which also Includes Prevention and Disruption, Criminal Analysis and Criminal Intelligence). You will be part of our leadership team working collaboratively with your counterparts to ensure an intelligence led approach to tackling illegal waste exports and to help the department evolve and deliver the best service possible.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact. You will be versatile and self-motivated and can quickly fit in and help shape the work of this busy team. You will be able to draw on your experiences of leading high performing teams and describe your leadership role in it. You will be a highly competent communicator, effective at influencing and engaging and using your skills to deliver results through others.

You will be experienced at managing performance, motivating and developing your team, with an appetite for nurturing relationships and developing people’s capabilities as well as your own.

Waste regulation/enforcement background will be an advantage.
Due to an increase in team size there are two permanent posts available, one based in Solihull (re-locating to Birmingham). The second post is flexible in location, with regular travel to Solihull / Birmingham expected for team meetings.

The Illegal Waste Exports Team have a national and international remit, with operational staff based across England. Office based staff within the team are predominately based in Solihull.

There is an expectation that travel across the UK will be occasionally required as the team is dispersed and also cover a number of ports across England.
