We have an exciting opportunity for a confident leader of people who has experience of managing a practical team to lead our front-line operational Field Team in North Devon. You will;

· Lead a practical team that operates and maintains flood risk management assets involving delivery of an annual maintenance programme, vegetation management, small-scale construction works (e.g. fences and repairs), asset checking and operation and provision of 24/7 emergency response.
· Develop and motivate team members to achieve their potential.
· Build effective relationships, internally and with external partners and the local community.
· Contribute to the development of the asset maintenance programme and lead on its delivery, including supervising the management of contractors.
· Champion Health Safety and Wellbeing.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role, see the candidate pack for more information.
You will lead a great team of people with a wealth of expertise and experience who are passionate about what they do.

You'll be part of the Area Operations leadership team as well as working with internal colleagues in strategic planning and asset planning.

You will work collaboratively with external partners, such as Fire & Rescue and local authorities, to deliver a joined-up response to flood incidents, working within our local communities.
Required:

· Experience of leading a safe, healthy and well team.
· Ability to lead people providing clear direction, instruction and guidance through effective performance management.
· Emotional intelligence. Ability to recognise the strengths, vulnerabilities and motivations of others and develop key skills.
· Ability to resource, prioritise and deliver a work programme. Identifying the required competencies/skills and plant/equipment needed to deliver activities in line with our SHEW Code of Practice and relevant OIs.
· Computer literate. Competent using IT devices, such as an iPad, and willing to learn our in-house systems.

Desirable:

· Commercial acumen and knowledge of our supply chain to assist in the delivery of our work programmes is beneficial.
· A relevant degree (or similar) and specialist training such as National Examination Board of Safety Health (NEBOSH) and/or Institute of Asset Management Certificate (IAM) is beneficial.
The role is based at Alverdiscott Depot, Bideford. However, the successful candidate will need to spend time on site with their team and visiting other depots and offices around DCiS.
