It’s an exciting time to join the Environment Agency’s national Future Funding Department. Our vision is to secure the wide range of funding and investment needed to protect and improve the environment now and in the future.
The senior specialist role is part of the dynamic Enabling Local Investment (ELI) team within Future Funding where innovation, green finance and blended funding are the core objectives. The ELI Team provides technical support, information and advice and builds staff capability across EA departments to secure funding and investment to deliver our corporate strategy (EA2025) goals. The role will:
- Horizon scan and build effective networks and relationships to advise and shape priority internal and external strategic funding and investment programmes in both aspects of policy development and technical delivery;
- Lead input from Future Funding to a portfolio of prioritised projects, working with others to advise and shape thematic and place-based climate and environmental improvement to facilitate increased blended investment;
- Be proactive and vigilant to support the continuous improvement of Environment Agency’s delivery with regards optimising value for money, achieving sustainable outcomes, and equality, diversity and inclusion by monitoring, learning and communicating best practice and lessons learned, in collaboration with others.
- Work collaboratively and flexibly to support Future Funding objectives.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
We are a dispersed but welcoming and inclusive national team with staff living and working at locations across England. Health, safety and wellbeing, and continuous professional development are core values, and we meet both virtually and in person to connect, share, and plan individual and team priorities.
Future Funding sits at the heart of the EA, in the Chief Operating Officers Directorate ensuring that as an organisation we are sustainably funded for the future.
We’re looking for someone who’s excited and motivated by advising, shaping and securing innovative public and private investment for environmental improvements, and who’s committed to developing their skills and experience to add value to Future Funding and Environment Agency delivery.
You will be able to demonstrate your leadership, skills and experience in:
- Engaging and working collaboratively with a wide variety of multi-sectoral partners to influence environment and/or investment policy and delivery;
- Analysing and interpreting complex information and data, horizon-scanning and innovating to solve problems, secure investment and enable best practice;
- Developing and delivering successful programmes and projects for sustainable outcomes, optimised value for money, and management of identified benefits;
- Working flexibly to support your direct and wider teams and organisational delivery.
Knowledge of green finance and blended investment is desirable but not essential. This is an opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and experience in this area
