Are you passionate about incident management, comfortable with change and enjoy delivering outcomes to tight deadlines? As part of a supportive team who seek and value diverse experiences and approaches, you’ll play a key part in ensuring we continually improve our efficiency and effectiveness to deliver a professional incident response.

Your job will include (but not limited to):

• Communicating effectively to deliver clear messages that are understood by our incident support staff and the people we work and engage with
• Building relationships across teams and with partners and stakeholders
• Identifying opportunities for smarter working and delivery across our Incident Management teams
• Maintaining, developing and championing new ways of working to ensure we respond to our customers’ needs
• Embedding improvements to our national incident response

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
Working within Incident Management & Resilience, we lead on some of the Environment Agency's national response services. Our team’s activities ensure our incident responders are properly trained, suitably experienced, and provided with the tools, guidance, resources, and equipment to enable them to operate effectively. As a team we develop and implement new ways of working to ensure our day-to-day incident management service is robust and resilient and we can effectively manage all types of incidents.
We are seeking someone who can plan and organise their own work, identifying solutions while delivering to often tight timeframes. Working collaboratively across the team you will be happy supporting colleagues and comfortable working to deadlines. You may have some incident management experience, but this is not essential as you. More important is that you have a flexible approach, are good at solving problems and can communicate clearly. Development is important to us, and we will support you in identifying opportunities to grow in this role and your future career.
The role is based in Bristol as you will specifically support the National Incident response hub based there. You should be prepared to contribute actively to our current dispersed working environment. Some occasional travel may be required, subject to any current restrictions, however we will use technology as much as possible to reduce our environmental impact and unnecessary travel.

Interviews are likely to take place during week commencing 12 December and may be held in person or remotely using MS Teams.

If you are interested in the role, have any questions or would like an informal chat, please contact – Rebecca Wildblood - rebecca.wildblood@environment-agency.gov.uk

Basic Check
Communicates Effectively
Incident response requires delivery at pace and the ability to convey information clearly, accurately, and persuasively through speech and writing.

Describe an example when you have had to adapt your communication style to different audiences and ensure your message was understood. How did you decide on the appropriate style and method of communication and how did you check understanding?
Focuses on Customers and Partners
Given the breadth of incident management, you'll need to ensure that the services we provide meet many different needs and that the customer is in mind with everything we improve and deliver.

Tell us about a time when you had to balance the differing needs of your stakeholders or customers. How did you ensure that you could meet them all - or manage expectations where this was impossible?
Takes Decisions and Solves Problems
Improving our incident management service requires data and information to be used from a wide variety of sources (for example learning from previous incidents, performance data and feedback from volunteers and customers).

Tell us about a time when you have co-ordinated and presented information from a variety of sources and used this evidence to recommend improvements to a service.
If you are applying from the Civil Service please note that the Environment Agency is not a part of HM Civil Service and you would not be a Crown Servant in the event of being appointed. Therefore, you will not be eligible for continuous service. For applicants who currently work in local government or other bodies listed in the Redundancy Payments (Continuity of Employment in Local Government etc) (Modification) Order 1999, you may be eligible for continuous service for the purpose of calculating any future redundancy payment. If you are unsure of your status then you should contact your own HR Team.

We are fully committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share, so please include clearly any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.
