The role may include both line management and technical leadership responsibilities and will be based ideally at either Nottingham or Bristol Offices.
You will use your geoscience / technical background to be a technical leader identifying and implementing continuous improvement measures with the team.
As a senior specialist you will identify, define and analyse related risks and develop appropriate innovative solutions and service enhancements whilst ensuring appropriate allocation of time and effort. You will use your experience of coordinating the delivery of complex technical projects to act as a link with our new Waste Deposit Permitting Teams and critical delivery teams related to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.
You will lead the development and delivery of sector specific technical training for new starters.

The post will report to the GOT Manager and may have line manager responsibilities.
As line manager you will motivate and develop team members to ensure effective delivery of operational and / or regulatory activities whist ensuring appropriate skill levels are developed and maintained. You will lead the delivery of specialised advice and effective implementation of technical activities.
You’ll be joining the Geoscience Operational Team, part of the National Permitting Service, providing support to NPS (for permit related work), National Environment & Business Teams, and Local Area teams.
The team provides business critical specialist permitting technical support to NPS and Area teams, providing technical support for landfill, mining, deposit for recovery and onshore oil & gas sectors.
You will be used to supporting specialists on complex technical matters and be an experienced technical leader with a track record of providing scientific advice to ensure our decisions are based on sound evidence and are rooted in good practice.
You will be comfortable providing clear decisions and advice for complex high profile issues with significant reputational risks to the organisation.
You are experienced and confident when engaging with permit applicants and of ensuring a consistent technical service to non-technical customers.
You will have significant regulatory or industry experience and a working knowledge of the permitting process.
Line management experience is preferred but not essential.

The role will be a mixture of office based and home working in line with the current Environment Agency ways of working. The current team is dispersed at several locations therefore travel will be required in future to support your colleagues and attend meetings.
