Field Intelligence Officers (FIOs) undertake intelligence-led field activity focussing on organised criminality and supply proactive, quality intelligence that contributes to the work of internal and external partners in tackling, preventing and disrupting waste and other environmental crimes.

Working with a national team of officers dedicated to disrupting and detecting illegal waste activities you will;
Identify and gather intelligence to assist in the preparation and analysis of the national intelligence picture.
Assist in formulation and delivery of intelligence led tactics.
Monitor intelligence and proactively identify opportunities to impact upon priorities and objectives.
Record and progress intelligence in a timely manner, utilising intelligence systems.
Participate in operations, seeking to pursue and prevent those offenders engaged in illegal activity.
Prepare intelligence packages to a high standard and deliver briefings in support of operations and investigations.
Make recommendations linked to operational activity, to support decision-making, focusing on criminality and impacting upon EA (Environment Agency) priorities and objectives.
Engaging with other EA staff, external agencies and partners as required, seeking to nurture relationships to enable the dynamic two-way passage of intelligence.
Strive for continuous improvement by capturing best practice, successes and learning, and sharing these with internal and external partners.
The Field Intelligence Officer team support an intelligence led approach to reduce, prevent and dismantle serious environmental crime. These types of offenders operate nationally across borders and the team are geographically dispersed to reflect this often adjusting their working hours and deploying directly from home to achieve the best outcome. The team identifies and develops intelligence through field-based deployments, proactively using a variety of tactics to satisfy operational, tactical and strategic intelligence requirements
As a Field Intelligence Officer, you will draw upon several key skills and personal characteristics. You’ll need to:

• Be able to work under pressure, organising and prioritising your workload.
• Be self-motivated, with the ability to work with minimum supervision.

• Have a proven ability to work collaboratively with other teams and external stakeholders.
• Have confidence to work independently as a ‘lone worker’.
• Handle information securely and ensure documents are prepared in compliance with the Criminal and Investigations Powers Act (CPIA (Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act)) and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act.
Vetting checks (SC and NPPV3) will be required.
FIO's adopt a hybrid working approach to working and mainly deploy from home.

A full driving license is required, and a vehicle will be made available.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
