This is an exciting opportunity within the Environment Agency’s Acoustics and Air Quality Modelling and Assessment Unit (AQMAU). You will lead a small team of technical specialists to provide technical expertise and leadership on air dispersion modelling. Your team will review and interpret air quality impact assessments; provide advice and training to colleagues across the organisation; and carry out complex modelling studies. You will work closely with your team providing technical coaching where needed and helping to support their development. You’ll also have the opportunity to get involved in incident response.
You’ll be a part of the Acoustics and Air Quality Modelling and Assessment Unit (AQMAU). The Unit provides regulatory advice to support permitting, compliance and major incidents, helping to protect people and wildlife from regulated emissions. The Unit shares skills and experience to deliver the best outcomes for the environment. The work we do impacts on permitting decisions and how a site can legally operate.
• A minimum of degree level or equivalent in a science or engineering subject such as Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Meteorology, Engineering.
• Experience in a leadership or technical leadership role responsible for managing the delivery of specific tasks or projects.
• Work planning skills meaning you’re able to handle multiple priorities and deliver to tight timescales.
• Air quality modelling experience gained through regulatory, consultancy or industry roles; or significant technical experience in a regulated industry sector.
• A proven ability to make decisions and solve problems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical information in a clear and accessible way.
• Coaching skills to develop team members and other colleagues to ensure effective delivery.

The post can be based in any Environment Agency office although we offer hybrid working.
