As a key member of the Environmental Monitoring team you'll lead on the planning and delivery of the Kent & South London Area fisheries monitoring programme.

You’ll also be responsible for reporting of good quality data and information to our customers to deliver positive environmental outcomes.

Additionally, you'll play a key role in supporting the team to deliver other aspects of our work including monitoring, analysis, and reporting for statutory legislation in both freshwaters and the marine environment.
The Environmental monitoring teams are responsible for the collection, analysis and interpretation of environmental information across a range of disciplines including chemistry, ecology, fisheries and groundwater.

The evidence we collect and interpret is required to inform and influence decision making to drive environmental improvements.
We’re seeking an enthusiastic, practical person who enjoys working outdoors. You'll be qualified to degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and possess experience and proven ability in:

• Leading fish surveys using various electro fishing methods and seine netting. A good working knowledge of all the relevant Health and Safety requirements associated with this work is essential.
• Fish identification skills (freshwater and marine)
• Planning, scheduling and reporting fisheries data and monitoring activities
• Ecology and water chemistry monitoring techniques
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Data management
• Taking decisions and solve problems.

This is a fixed term post until end of December 2019.

The field element of this role requires frequent travel across the area, for which a badged vehicle is provided. Other skills that would also be beneficial are boat handling, 4x4 off road vehicle use and trailer towing.
