We desire a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to work as part of our Waste teams covering the Hertfordshire and North London patch.

In this roles you will be responsible for leading the delivery of Hazardous waste and taking part in other waste regime work will also form part of the role. By providing technical leadership you will plan, develop and report on the work streams you lead. You will work closely with the other SEO’s to ensure integrated delivery of all regimes.

You will use your experience to support and mentor officers in waste teams across the area to develop their knowledge and skills. You will undertake communication and regulatory activities including taking enforcement action. You’ll need to be flexible and able to prioritise your work and that of others effectively. The work is varied and often challenging.

The role also involves responding to environmental incidents, sometimes out of hours. You’ll be expected to hold an incident response role both inside and outside office hours.
There are 3 waste teams who work together to regulate compliance with Environmental Legislation in the Waste Industry. We also provide support on incident planning and response.

We work in a fast paced and challenging environment. There is a high volume of work which requires continual reprioritisation and adaptability.
• Be able to demonstrate strong technical leadership, be self-motivated whilst working as part of the integral SEO group and able to support and develop other officers.
• Environmental Permitting Regulations and Hazardous Waste.
• Be comfortable when taking legal action against non-compliant operators.
• An ability to effectively communicate, adapt your behaviour to different people and situations and achieve outcomes through engagement with a wide range of audiences.
• You must work independently, make decisions and prioritise and plan work to achieve good environmental outcomes.
• An ability to input into a culture of efficiency, innovation and quality.
• Chartered Member of a relevant institute is desirable.
• A full UK driving licence is essential as you’ll undertake fieldwork and travel.

• This role is based at Alchemy Office, Welwyn Garden City.
• You’ll be expected to do rostered out of hours standby and on-call work.
