The Environment Agency has joined forces with other law enforcement agencies to establish a collaborative unit to tackle serious and organised crime in the waste sector.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, experienced and driven individual to lead and develop an operational, multi-agency team. You will have first line management responsibility for resources from all partner agencies.

You will have oversight of the operational work of the team providing direction to ensure we meet our strategic aims. You will manage and maintain relationships with key partners as well as building new relationships to ensure the JUWC is continually expanding.
This collaborative team find new and innovative ways of tackling waste crime. We develop intelligence and act to prevent and disrupt serious organised waste crime across the UK.
You will help share and publicise this activity across law enforcement, the waste industry and the wider public.
There may also be a requirement for you represent the unit or deputise for the unit manager at meetings or events.
In addition to the core role you will assist with managing wider waste crime resources. This will include co-ordinating and supporting the work of the Waste Crime Engagement Specialists across the Environment Agency.
The JUWC is a multi-agency unit designed to tackle serious and organised crime in the UK waste industry. We are made up of 9 enforcement partners and 2 industry partners covering England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

We are a dispersed team based within the Environment Agency’s National Enforcement Service.

The National Enforcement Service has approximately 180 employees, who are passionate about the people they work with making it a great place to work.
You will be a strong leader with proven leadership skills. You will remotely manage a dispersed team delivering innovative results. You will drive forwards the collation and sharing of intelligence and operational partnership enforcement activity.

You will have significant experience in the management and supervision of major criminal investigations and the handling of intelligence. An understanding of the process for managing and targeting Organised Crime Groups is desirable.
One of your key attributes will be the ability to create and maintain positive, professional and trusting relationships across enforcement and intelligence communities to deliver successful outcomes. You will be comfortable and confident communicating and engaging with different audiences.

You will enjoy seeking opportunities to innovate and improve and will work collaboratively to achieve this.
You will work at a leadership level anticipating potential risks and issues. You will demonstrate an ability collate information and use sound judgement to reach decisions effectively.
This post is a permanent full-time role.
The location for this role is flexible. As a national role some travel will be required. The main NES hub is in Birmingham which you may need to attend in order to maintain the visibility of the unit and chair or attend meetings.
