We’re looking for an innovative and inspirational leader for Herts and North London Environment Programme Team. This role includes both Programme Management and Team Leader responsibilities.

The successful candidate will lead a team of Catchment Coordinators and Programme specialists working to improve and restore the rivers and chalk streams in Hertfordshire and North London. You will be responsible for motivating and developing each team member’s performance as well as maintaining a high performing team culture. You will manage the team ensuring consistent and efficient delivery so that Area priorities are at the core of the team’s work. You will help manage the team’s development and delivery of projects, so they take an integrated catchment approach helping to align our FCRM and Environment Programmes. They will be place and catchment based, collaborative and evidence led. You will help ensure that our programmes are delivered to time and budget requirements. Working with other internal teams and partners will be a key requirement of the role. You'll raise the profile of the team, manage budgets and have an active role in inputting to Business Boards and Area Leadership Group as appropriate. You will drive a strong health, safety and wellbeing culture.
The role reports into the Environment, Planning and Engagement Manager and managers 10 direct reports. As a team we work with a wide range of people and teams across the Environment Agency, along with many different external organisations and partners to deliver projects that improve our water environment. We are a friendly team with a real passion for the work we do which is often challenging, and fast paced, yet highly rewarding.
We are looking for candidates with either a degree in an environmental discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

You will draw on a number of skills to deliver the role and you will need to demonstrate your ability in the following areas:

• Excellent leadership skills, with a track record of building and developing a high functioning team to deliver key environmental outcomes.
• Skilled in developing & coaching technical staff, managing performance, building inclusive relationships, resource management, embedding excellence, knowledge sharing with excellent communication and influencing skills.
• The ability to manage complex budgets and resources.
• A proven track record of promoting a diverse organisation and taking action to put people first and celebrate difference.
• Experience of programme and project management.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

A full driving licence is required as there are regular site visits and meetings to attend.
