This exciting role sits in the Programme & Contract Management (PCM) team. As a programme manager you sit at a strategic level and oversee the delivery of our asset reconditioning, maintenance and incident response programmes, including both flooding and water resources assets. You will also support delivery of other projects, for example taking a troubleshooting role across a range of other projects or business processes.
Due to the programme being made up of a large number of smaller projects and including reactive works you will have a large number of stakeholders to consult and plan with. You will also need to build a team that is agile, built on strong relationships and collaboration.

The other part of the role is to engage, influence and advise at a senior level. As such you will be an integral part of a national peer group and the North East Hub PCM Senior Leadership Team.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The PCM team leads on the delivery of a £5.2bn capital programme, protecting people, properties and the environment from the effects of climate change. This challenging capital programme also delivers asset management programmes and exciting transformation and innovation projects.

Programme and Contract Management sits in our Major Projects and Programme Delivery (MPPD) team. The team provide project, programme, and contract management services delivering or supporting projects typically focused on flood risk and asset management
• A degree (or equivalent) in an engineering, environmental or geography related discipline
• Chartered membership of a professional body such as ICE, CIWEM or APMP is preferred.
• The ability to develop a resilient network of relationships with stakeholders including internal colleagues, statutory authorities, landowners, and local communities to negotiate agreements, consents, approvals, and external funding is crucial.
• Experience and training in project and contract management, ideally within engineering, construction and/or flood & coastal risk management (PRINCE 2 or APMP qualification is desirable)
• A track record for delivering results on large, technically challenging projects through leadership of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Strong awareness of the need for exemplary Health, Safety and Wellbeing behaviours and the importance of the climate emergency

Driving licence
Chartered membership of a professional body such as ICE, CIWEM or APMP is preferred.
