As a Flood Forecast Modeller working in Strategic Delivery, you’ll be responsible for providing the evidence to deliver this strategy as part of the wider Evidence and Risk team.

You will:
Develop, maintain, operate and improve our flood forecast models
Lead on forecast model development work as part of our Flood Forecast Improvement and Development Programme. This flagship programme will deliver 669 model improvements and 220 model expansions to reduce the impacts of flooding to people, property and infrastructure.
Lead, coach and nurture an establishing centre of excellence for modelling, putting your own development at the heart of what we do.
Communicate complex flood forecast analyses and uncertainty to internal and external stakeholders.
Advise on the most appropriate tools and techniques for flood forecasting.
Develop industry-leading research, guidance to shape the future of flood forecasting and modelling.
Promote inclusion by understanding and respecting differences in our workforce.
Develop a positive health, safety, and wellbeing culture.
Foster innovation to adapt ways of working to become more efficient and sustainable.
Strategic Delivery sits within Evidence and Risk in Incident Management and Resilience.
We are the Environment Agency’s lead experts in flood hydrology and modelling, forecasting, mapping, and analytics. We ensure that the right evidence is available to the right people at the right time to enable better, safer decisions.

You will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:

Expert knowledge and leadership in flood forecasting and hydrology.

Experience with flood modelling software, such as Flood Modeller, TuFLOW, PDM, Infoworks ICM.

Experience in data processing and management, coding skills (e.g. Python, R, etc.) and Geographical Information System (GIS) software packages.

Mentoring and coaching skills, as well as a commitment to continuous development.

Ability to work alone, as well as part of team, to make decisions and solve problems.

Excellent communication skills, particularly of complex problems to non-expert audiences.

A curious, open, and inclusive mindset, with a commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity.

As Strategic Delivery is a national team, there is flexibility around location across England. We are not required to travel; however, we do have quarterly team meetings which we encourage all team members to attend in person.
