Floods can be devastating. Are you interested in helping us reduce the impacts by supporting our partners and communities to be as prepared as possible, in places such as Hull, Leeds and Sheffield?

You will be responsible for strategically planning, prioritising and delivering FCRM engagement with communities, business and partners across Yorkshire. You’ll empower them to prepare for flooding and become resilient by developing flood plans, establishing and supporting flood groups and promoting the Flood Warning Service.

You will deliver this through the work of the Flood Resilience team and by influencing internal and external customers and partners to plan and deliver engagement to empower communities to prepare for flooding and become resilient:

- work with the Team Leader and other technical advisors to prioritise and manage the Team’s workload and set the strategic direction of the team
- build and sustain effective relationships with community stakeholders, internal and external partners
- identify opportunities to engage with communities to raise awareness of flood risk and encourage flood actions.
- develop and maintain communication and engagement tools and materials
- provide leadership, acting as coach and mentor to develop skills in others
- support our incident management response.

As responding to incidents is a central part of what we do, you will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The Flood Resilience team plays a critical role in the EA’s long-term goal: “A nation ready to respond and adapt to flooding & coastal change”. We ensure that our staff, partners and communities are able to respond effectively before, during and after a flood. We do this by managing our Flood Warning Service, supporting our partners and communities with flood response plans, and by ensuring our flood warning duty officers are fully trained and capable.
• Experience of planning and delivering engagement with communities and professional partners;
• You’ll demonstrate the ability to seek and create opportunities;
• You'll be an enthusiastic and proactive self-starter, able to work as part of a team and individually, prioritising workload to deliver results;
• You’ll be motivated by delivering outcomes and you will think innovatively to develop solutions;
• You'll be good at working under pressure, working flexibly and at pace;
• Coaching, training and/or mentoring skills;
• Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• You will be a quick-learner, with a strong customer-focus, and a desire to make a difference.

We welcome applications from all backgrounds. The key things we’re looking for are transferrable skills and capabilities, so do not be put off applying if you don’t have experience in this sector.
We are a close knit, high achieving team and work flexibly from both home and office.
