We are looking for an experienced engineer to provide specialist advice and guidance to our Operations teams in Wessex to help us protect people and the environment in flood risk areas.

You will:
- Provide technical leadership and lead on engineering assurance to help shape and deliver cost effective and sustainable FCRM and incident management outcomes.
- Provide a level of independent supervision for our most critical assets including statutory reservoirs.
- Co-ordinate, support training, and exercising, with framework supply chain and Field Teams, to provide operational action plans.
- Take a lead role in supporting the shift to a whole-life asset management approach.
- Assure management and resolution of below required condition EA & third-party assets, work with teams to develop and technically assure an evidence-based asset investment programme.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners to influence their activities, promote and enhance the EA’s goals and reputation.
- Work with the Asset Performance and Field Operation Teams to help strengthen engineering skills, and resilience across Wessex through mentoring, coaching and development of staff to achieve professional membership.
- Contribute engineering input to discussions and decision-making in our Asset Performance, MEICA and Field Teams also working alongside the Catchment Engineer and local Operations Managers.

We manage our assets so that they perform when needed, have worked up and exercised contingency plans for the unexpected and are repaired efficiently and quickly when necessary.
We’re seeking someone with passion and commitment to engineering within flood risk management.
You will be:
- Able to describe how you’ll solve problems innovatively, offer sustainable engineering solutions and make sound decisions. Communication is key, you’ll be working with a diverse group of people.
- Able to tell us how you’ll balance flood risk and environmental priorities, bringing learning from elsewhere in the industry
- Experienced in managing the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and others
- Passionate about developing people and able to create an inclusive environment. We’re looking for positive energy, a can-do attitude, a fresh perspective and excitement in helping us achieve our vision.
- Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline or able to demonstrate comparable technical know-how in a relevant subject. Chartered/Incorporated Civil Engineer status is preferable
- Experienced in flood risk and/or asset management or able to demonstrate a keen interest
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

As Deputy Catchment Engineer you will be expected to work under your own initiative. You will be expected to use your engineering judgement to make decisions on your own. Please tell us about a situation where you had to make a decision in a limited amount of time with a minimal number of facts to hand.
