There are many different aspects of the role of Accredited Financial Investigator. Here are a few key expectations around the role:
Carry out full Confiscation Investigations and Revisit Investigations, identifying and recovering criminal assets through the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 legislation. As well as facilitate Money Laundering investigations with a view to prosecuting offenders involved in environmental crime.
Provide specialist guidance to operational teams to influence compliance with Environment Agency policy, legislation and best practice to contribute to the delivery of business plans.
Provide and co-ordinate specialist technical advice and guidance to area teams, from a range of sources; ensure that local decisions are based on sound technical judgment and are in line with current legislation.
Mentor and coach others on policies, procedures, practices and techniques equipping them with the knowledge and skills to deliver their work in an effective and efficient manner
Maintaining your National Crime Agency accreditations, while keeping up to date on changing legislation/best practice externally, to inform internal priorities and appropriate alignment.
Lead or participate in projects, providing functional/specialist input to improve ways of working and business change & efficiency.
Build and sustain effective relationships with operational partners and customers.
Prepare documentation and make applications for appropriate orders to Crown Court and Magistrates court, in accordance with POCA legislation.
Assess the suitability of cases for restraint order applications and liaise with legal teams to compile supporting witness statement.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The Financial Investigation team is a National Team within Enforcement & Investigations which focuses on the pursuit of the most serious offenders involved in environmental crime. We are a dispersed team with a blend of accredited Financial Investigators who work alongside Accredited Financial Intelligence Officers.
Based in one of our area hubs, with a hybrid arrangement working from home and/or in an office. Some National travel will be required together with some overnight stays.
It is essential that you have current, or recently suspended, accreditation through the National Crime Agency up to AND including:
• Financial Investigator
• Confiscator

It would be helpful (but not essential) if you had up to date knowledge of the legislation associated with the obtaining and presentation of evidence, in particular Police & Criminal Evidence Act 1984, Criminal Procedure & Investigation Act 1996.

Specific, relevant work experience as an Accredited Financial Investigator AND Confiscator is essential, however, it’s also important that you show an ability to demonstrate the key transferrable skills and personal qualities that we’re looking for. It is also desirable that you have experience in the following:

• Dealing with complex and protracted investigations
• Preparing prosecution files
• Working collaboratively with other teams and external stakeholders
• Obtaining Special Procedure Material
• Preparation and presentation of evidence at court.

A full driving licence is required.
