We are looking for someone with knowledge and enthusiasm for freshwaters, to help in the delivery of our environmental monitoring programme. There are two roles, one focused on the assessment of freshwater benthic samples, using keys and other resources to identify macroinvertebrates in the laboratory. The other post will have a water quality focus and involve the deployment of water quality instrumentation. Both posts will involve the assessment and analysis of data and take an active role in the management of the laboratory. There will be opportunities to assist in field surveys (such as macroinvertebrates and aquatic plants) and contribute to our incident response work.
The Analysis & Reporting team comprise a small, dedicated group of freshwater ecologists and water quality specialists. We undertake surveys, analyse samples, assess data and report upon the ecological condition of our waterways, helping us meet our statutory duties and responsibilities.
You will be qualified to a higher education level in a relevant discipline with knowledge of freshwater ecosystems. You will have a passion for the study of riverine environments and, for the laboratory-based post, have some previous experience in the identification of macroinvertebrate fauna, although full training will be provided. You will be comfortable working in an office or laboratory setting, but equally at ease undertaking field work or manipulating data on spreadsheets in the office. You should also have a good eye for detail, enjoy the process of data management and interpretation as well as the ability to communicate technical matters effectively to a wide audience.
