The role of Disclosure Officer is critical in criminal investigations, and you will often represent the Environment Agency during the court process.
This role will also require you to perform some administrative duties to support the team when not engaged in the disclosure process.

To assess all material generated during an investigation by applying the guidelines and Code of Practice as set out in the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996, as amended by the Criminal Justice Act 2003.
To assess the unused material for relevancy, sensitivity and the ability to undermine the prosecution case or assist the defence.
Produce disclosure schedules using appropriate documentation ensuring that the description of each item is detailed and accurate.
Develop close relationships with investigating officers and Legal to ensure that any material that has the potential to undermine the prosecution case or assist the defence is highlighted at the earliest opportunity.
Liaise with Legal, other agencies and counsel at conferences to discuss disclosure issues, public interest immunity issues and defence case statements.
Have the ability to deal with material downloaded from digital material in criminal investigations.
When not engaged in disclosure duties you will be expected to perform multiple administrative tasks based within the area enforcement team.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The Area Enforcement Team's (AET) prime responsibility is to tackle serious/complex environmental crime to ensure crime reduction.

AETs provide specialist enforcement skills to:
- reduce environmental crime;
- deal effectively with complex and serious offences;
- manage criminal intelligence at a local level;
- provide specialist enforcement support and advice to staff across functions;
- develop prevention, intelligence and enforcement expertise.
It is key that you have considerable knowledge of and / or experience as a Disclosure Officer within your previous roles.
With expertise in an investigative role, you understand the complexities and sensitivities of crime investigation and have the proven ability to adapt your communication style to a diverse range of audiences and situations.
You will also need to be able to demonstrate your:
•Experience of performing the role of Principal Disclosure Officer on large scale investigations.
•Knowledge and understanding of the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996, Disclosure Manual and relevant amendments to disclosure requirements.
•Experience of preparing accurate disclosure schedules and attendance at Magistrates and Crown Court.
•Ability to produce detailed and accurate reports.
•Work to specific and agreed time scales.
•Good communication skills.
•Attendance at a Disclosure Course.

Working patterns are Monday-Friday 37hrs per week office based.
