Do you want to work for an organisation that values difference and includes everyone? Then the Environment Agency is the organisation for you! We are fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies.

This unique role is an opportunity for a hands-on senior engineer to join the exciting world of MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation). With relevant engineering qualifications and professional registration, successful candidates will assure MEICA activity, provide technical guidance, ensure statutory compliance, and enable carbon reduction initiatives and/or water resources management across multiple assets. Furthermore, duties include providing technical leadership focusing on risk-based asset assurance – all in aid of driving positive change within our asset base (e.g., flood risk, water resources, navigation, and air quality monitoring assets).
You will provide design/technical advice ensuring compliance with electrical statutory legislation for British and European standards, and the EA’s codes of practices, procedures, and related guidance.

You will assure the technical capability and competence of staff, identifying areas of technical development for the EA. You will help to plan and deliver crucial asset investments, including flood protection to homes, businesses and the environment, which will have an increasingly important role as we face the challenge of global climate change. Following our recent ISO55001 Asset Management accreditation, you will be working to develop a world class asset management organisation.
Responding to incidents is also a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
Our Supra-Area MEICA team is a multi-skilled, specialised group of MEICA engineers and support staff. We cover the EA’s Yorkshire and North East Operational Areas. You will report to the MEICA Team Leader, acting as technical leader on MEICA activity. You will provide technical support and be responsible for liaising with business partners and leading on actions on behalf of the Team Leader. You will participate in our incident response roster.
• Comprehensive knowledge of MEICA statutory legislation, British and European standard.
• Demonstrated experience operating as the Subject Matter Expert in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in the Electrical role of Senior Authorised Person, including assurance of HV capability and management systems.
• Ability to drive resilience, reliability, innovation, efficiency, and quality into design and assure detailed design of complex MEICA structures.
• Experience in supervising and testing MEICA process installations including site work.
• Experience leading safety/technical investigations, identifying/disseminating learning to bring about improvements in electrical and behavioural safety.
• Experience managing whole life H&S and carbon emission issues.
• Ability to influence and persuade others combined with strong technical leadership.
• Knowledge of CDM 2015, H&S Legislation, BIM and Asset Management/computer systems including computerised maintenance management systems.

Desirable
• Educated to BEng in Electrical Engineering.
• A professionally recognised electrical engineer holding Chartered status with the IMechE or IET.
Interviews will be held W/C 15/04/2024 via MS.

We offer opportunities to employees such as apprenticeships and job-related training, enabling advancement in chosen career. We offer a great benefits package (see candidate pack), an impressive career average pension scheme and 27 days holiday (increasing with period of service) with flexitime working available.

What’s in it for you?

• Full time salary of £50,409 p.a.
