We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Monitoring Field Technical Officer (Field Lead) to join our Field Monitoring team. This is a challenging and busy role working in the office and the field.
You’ll carry out a supervisory role where you will support the Line Manager and provide day to day technical, operational advice and guidance to the field team to ensure the delivery of our monitoring programmes.
You will work closely with National and Area teams and will be responsible for planning and scheduling monitoring programmes to ensure maximum efficiency. You will lead on maintaining, inputting and interpreting routine data on key systems.
The work is varied and you will be required to collect environmental samples from rivers, boreholes, lakes, coastal waters and commercial businesses.
The job involves driving, lifting and carrying samples and equipment, working in and near water. You will be required to follow operational guidance and follow current Health and Safety procedures.
You will be responsible for your own health, safety and wellbeing, developing a positive HSW culture for the Monitoring Field Teams.
The role leads on training and mentoring within the Monitoring Field teams and coordinates the delivery of monitoring required for incident response and projects.
We plan, schedule and collect field-based samples for local, national and statutory requirements. The data provides key information for multiple teams working across the Environment Agency to serve diverse community and environmental needs.
The Monitoring Field Team is dispersed and covers England. This post is based in our Shrewsbury team. The base locations are Shrewsbury or Warrington.
This is an office and field-based role and requires driving in urban and rural locations.
We’re seeking candidates who are happy to work in an office environment in a supervisory role and can work in the field in all weathers and environments.
A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
Other key requirements for this job include:
• Leadership experience.
• Able to swim and confidence to work in or near water
• A motivated, organised, friendly and helpful person with an eye for detail, who is comfortable working in a dispersed team environment
• Experience in training and mentoring others.
• Good level of literacy and numeracy skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal (users of the data) and external customers (site and landowners).
• Experience of using standard IT packages and specialised systems such as CLICK, WIMS, Midas, RouteLIMS would be advantage.
• Experience of biosecurity procedures.
• Experience of health, safety and wellbeing procedures including carrying out risk assessments.
The core hours for this role are 37 per week. We welcome flexible working patterns. Please include any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.
The base locations are either Shrewsbury or Warrington. You will be required to pick up equipment and drop off samples at your base location. Your time will be split between working in the field across the team territory and at an office location.
