We are seeking a crime analyst to join the Environment Agency’s National Enforcement Service (NES) in a dynamic part of the business.

Environmental crime is a strategic priority for us, attracting high profile attention from the public, media, national and international stakeholders. The role provides an exciting opportunity for you to help deliver our response to it by pro-actively developing and assessing intelligence from a range of sources to inform decision making and provide actionable intelligence products. Often working at pace, you’ll support the detection, prevention and disruption of Serious Organised Waste Crime - focussing on Organised Crime Groups and Priority offenders – particularly in the waste sector.
Our ambition is to be an intelligence-led organisation so having the ability to manage intelligence professionally and in line with current guidance is essential to ensuring that any threat, risk and harm is appropriately assessed and managed.

A team player and establishing effective working relationships with your colleagues, internal customers and external law enforcement partners will be critical to ensure that we realise this ambition. You’ll represent us in the most professional way and confidently engage with partners at all levels to further intelligence sharing and collaborative working.
NES supports the Environment Agency’s enforcement community which is spread across 14 geographical areas and a number of national services – tackling around 40,000 suspected and alleged offences each year, from non-compliance, financially motivated criminal behaviour and serious organised crime.

You will be part of our Intelligence & Partnerships department aligned to one of our geographical Hubs - working alongside other intelligence professionals, providing intelligence products and assessments to support our regulatory and enforcement colleagues.
Protecting the environment is the heart of everything we do, so you must be passionate about stopping crime to protect people and places. We’re not seeking specific qualifications it is much more important that you have the right knowledge, experience and personal characteristics.

• Experienced handling sensitive information recording and disseminating intelligence material. Be competent in the use of IT and intelligence systems

• Able to produce high quality intelligence products to clearly and accurately inform our decision making, utilising great communication skills.

You will be self-motivated to achieve excellence in your work, have a keen eye for detail and driven to embed an intelligence led service for the prevention & disruption of Serious Organised Crime.

• You will develop and maintain strong relationships with our internal customers and external partner agencies, identifying intelligence gaps and interpreting and sharing intelligence and information to assess risk and direct resources effectively.
Location is flexible and we are happy to support smarter ways of working through a mixture of home and office working but travel to our Birmingham office – where most of our staff are based will be required on occasions.
We want to reflect the diverse communities that we serve, embracing difference and including everyone, so welcome applications from groups that are under-represented across our workforce.
Note that security vetting checks (SC and NPPV3) will be required.
