We work together with local, national and global partners. This includes Defra group (the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs), wider government, businesses, local councils, charities, civil society groups, local communities and international bodies.

This is a unique opportunity to make a difference in a senior leadership role in our Water, Land and Biodiversity Leadership Team within the Environment and Business Directorate. In this role you will:

• Be accountable for developing and engaging a team of national experts

• Have 7 direct reports, who provide expertise on Chemicals Programme Delivery, Land Contamination, Water Quality Business Development, Groundwater, Water Quality Planning, Water Quality Digital Services and Chemicals Strategic and Regulatory Planning

• Be accountable to the Director of Water Land and Biodiversity and as a member of WLBLT you will join 4 other WLB Deputy Directors

• Provide strategic direction and leadership to enable us to deliver our ambitious 5 year plan: EA2025, ensuring value for money and the environment

• Work across the organisation, Defra Group and Government to ensure our WLB delivery teams are sustainably funded, resourced and focussed on delivering our key priorities

• Lead and embed a culture of innovation, problem solving and continuous improvement, enabling the EA to adapt to the changing needs of its customers
You will join a team of over 400 talented people in Water, Land and Biodiversity working nationally across England. As a part of the WLB Leadership Team you will work closely with 4 other WLB Deputy Directors and the Director of WLB, David Dangerfield. You will also join a national community of Executive Managers focussed on setting the direction of the Environment Agency and ensuring an integrated approach to delivering outcomes.

Our business is complex and integrated; you’ll need to think strategically, spotting connections to identify opportunities. You should have experience of leading and influencing Government and other expert/technical organisations in new ways of working, financial and budget management, and the ability to understand, develop and influence high level complex relationships with external partners to translate strategy into action for the environment.
