We are the Environment Agency. We work with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to make our environment cleaner, safer, and healthier for people and wildlife. We tackle the effects and causes of climate change, perhaps the most serious long-term threat to the environment that we face.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Kent, South London, and East Sussex (KSLES) Hydrometry and Telemetry (H&T) Team.

You will be someone who enjoys and excels in both practical site work and data analysis. In the field, you will be responsible for fault fixing, installations and data collection at river level, river flow, rainfall and groundwater sites. Whilst in the office you will undertake analysis and checking of our data to ensure it is accurate for meeting the needs of internal and external customers.

You will be expected to manage your own workload and work flexibly according to the demands of the role, with support from colleagues.

There are 2 posts available, and they will be primarily based in our Rother / Dour catchments and Stour / Swale catchments, though at times you may be asked to work anywhere within the area.
We are a team of friendly, skilled and motivated people providing high quality rainfall, surface water and groundwater data to customers across the KSLES area. The team have several specialisms in managing instrumentation and telemetry, setting high standards for their work at all times.

We deliver a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency's work relating to flood risk and water resources management.
Ideally you will:
• Have a practical scientific or environmental background and be educated to at least A-level standard.
• Be passionate about the environment and will look for opportunities to make a difference.
• Be experienced in handling and managing data, with practical problem-solving skills.
• Have an eye for detail, be efficient and able to persevere with tasks.

Good communication skills are a must as you will be required to interact effectively with the team, internal and external customers, and members of the public.

Experience of field work, water safety, risk assessment and scientific instrumentation would be advantageous. You will be required to work alone so a good knowledge of health & safety and associated risks is essential. You should be happy to work outside, in demanding weather conditions, all year round.

You must be able to swim and hold a current UK driving licence.
We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share, so please include any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.

The role will be based in Tonbridge, Canterbury or our Rye Scots Float Depot, with interviews being scheduled for the week commencing 12th December.
