This is a fantastic opportunity to use your technical leadership skills to influence how we deliver Hydrometry & Telemetry (H&T) within the Environment Agency.
H&T will receive significant capital investment over the next few years to help drive improvements in the H&T monitoring network and we’re looking for an excellent communicator who is passionate about delivering a more sustainable service.
This role will be accountable for developing long term strategic investment plans that link with the EA2025 vision to promote a more resilient Hydrometric network that delivers a service that is more affordable, demonstrates best value for customers and steers us towards the EA ambition to be a Net Zero organisation.
The successful candidate will be accountable for providing national leadership on the following activities:
• Development of guidance to areas on overall planning, delivery and tracking of capital funding provided to H&T.
• Building and maintaining close relationships with all parties involved in the commissioning, investment and delivery of H&T and embedding transformation
• Development of a centralised procurement solution for H&T instruments, housing and power options.
• Through assurance, ensure that the H&T strategic investment programme remains on track and funding is managed effectively
You will join the highly skilled National Hydrometry Team, part of Instruments & Systems (I&S) in National Operations.
The team has a varied role providing technical leadership across a range of hydrometric activities, from evaluating instrumentation and reviewing data processes to supporting network management.
The team are dispersed but with a strong identity, regularly linking together to collaborate within the team and across the business.
Through experience to date, you should be able to demonstrate most of the following:
• Excellent knowledge of hydrometric networks and instrumentation
• Experience of leading projects and ability to initiate and drive change
• Development of clear guidance documents, successful embedding and implementation
• A track record in planning, leading and implementing new technology would be advantageous
• Excellent communication skills are a must for this role as you’ll be liaising with national and local customers, and our operational H&T teams
