We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic environmental regulator to work across the East Anglia area. You'll be responsible for overseeing the regulation of wide-ranging waste industry sites. The successful candidate will be a visible and pro-active technical leader with oversight of our current and emerging challenges.

You will be supporting area staff to manage our poorly performing, high risk and contentious sites. You'll help them prepare and implement an appropriate range of interventions following a structured Compliance Action Plan. Your guidance will be a combination of remote/office-based and visits to the sites themselves to conduct assessments and influence the operators.

You'll assist all five waste teams to develop strategies to manage the demands that communication can bring from interested stakeholders like the public and outside bodies.

You will also be enhancing our standard of regulation by coaching and developing our staff. You'll need to ensure they are keeping up to date with changing guidance, legislation and best practice. You will review of our completed work to identify common problems and successes, provide constructive feedback, and respond to operator challenges and appeals.

You will steer the HPI and Amenity group to ensure it is an effective way to inform and educate staff around these challenging issues.

You'll be encouraged to complete training required for your development and to achieve professional membership (if needed). Some travel around East Anglia will be required, for which a pool or hire car will be provided.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You'll be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The five Waste Teams in East Anglia cover a diverse area encompassing rural and industrial locations. They are responsible for delivering core regulatory work to tight deadlines, within a high pressure environment.

You'll be based at an EA office which will be agreed with the successful candidate. However, we are adopting new ways of working which allows some flexibility to work from home.
We are looking for a person who is;

- Proactive, self-motivated and a strong communicator, used to influencing and negotiating.
- Experienced in delivering environmental compliance and outcomes in accordance with a relevant legislative regime
- Able to demonstrate practical operational experience and knowledge of environmental regulation.
- Experienced in delivering environmental improvements using a range of tools.
- Able to demonstrate experience of coaching and mentoring others.
- Able to demonstrate a broad range of technical knowledge, together with strong interpersonal and team-working skills.
- Able to work as part of a team, sharing skills and experience to deliver the best outcomes for the environment.

A full UK driving licence is essential.
