We are looking for a candidate with the drive to lead one of our Partnership & Strategic Overview teams, who work collaboratively with others to reduce flood risk and manage the impacts of climate change. Your team will provide expert knowledge and advice on priority complex and strategic Flood Risk Management issues and projects, securing positive outcomes for people and wildlife and to protect people and property from future flood risk. You will need to use your strong communication and networking skills to actively form and maintain close links with a range of internal and external partners, including local communities and Risk Management Authorities and influence, or help deliver, strategic outcomes through them. You will champion our Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy, lead its local implementation and support the Area Flood and Coastal Risk Manager to deliver the strategic overview of flooding from all sources.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support. Full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you.
The team uses a wide range of skills to help us plan for the future. They include the analysis of data to inform future investment plans, engagement with communities and professional partners and developing strategic approaches to future flood risk management. The team identifies, prioritises, assesses and delivers Flood Risk Management projects, including natural flood management, and advises on government capital funding, planning-related flood risk assessments, permitting issues, mapping and modelling, and community engagement.
You will have excellent people skills and experience of working with others where you have demonstrated your leadership skills (note: this could be in any role however it would be advantageous if you have held a previous line manager role). Delivering work through others to time, cost and quality is important.

You will be a positive role model who can motivate and is able to collaborate with people throughout the organisation and externally. You will be able to build relationships and influence partners, also using political awareness and sensitivity when responding to the needs of customers, stakeholders and communities.

You should have an enthusiasm to improve how we do things, championing efficiency and effectiveness. The ability to thrive in a changing work environment will be beneficial.

Our hybrid working model combines home and office working, however you will be expected to attend the office for certain meetings and to meet with your team members face to face. The role will be based in the area office in Welwyn Garden City with frequent travel to meet partner organisations and visit project sites.

This role is offered as a Permanent position.
