We will provide you with the on-the-job opportunities to develop your skills across a wide variety of flood related technical skills, with possible access to higher education and apprenticeships. Working closely with other teams and organisations, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:

Collection, analysis, and interpretation of data
• Flood risk mapping
• Working closely with customers and partners
• Taking part in incident management when flooding occurs
• Providing advice, guidance, and training for less experienced officers.
• Providing technical support to help the team deliver a variety of flood defence schemes.
Partnerships and Strategic Overview Team (PSO) work with local Risk Management Authorities and communities to design, develop, fund, and deliver flood risk management assets to reduce flood risk to communities. We compile, manage, and use the best available evidence through our mapping, modelling, and data work to inform our long-term plans and investment programme. We provide advice on Flood Risk Assessments for development proposals and issue Flood Risk Activity Permits.
We are looking for a person who is proactive with the ability to identify risks and resolve issues. Through your experience you will demonstrate:

• A good understanding of the impact of flooding.
• Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with customers.
• A good working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• An understanding of the Environmental Permitting and Planning Applications processes, in relation to Flood risk.
• Delivery of work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information.
• Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to achieve planned outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills to deal with a diverse range of people.
• Flexible to the needs of the organisation and open to new ways of working.
• A positive and adaptable attitude, who responds well to constructive feedback.
• Experience of working with others to deliver specific projects or initiatives.

PSO teams identify locations at risk of flooding and evaluate the level of risk and make recommendations to minimise the risk of flooding.

Please share with us your knowledge/experience pertaining to flood risk or other similar technical matter. Please include how you have assessed the different types of risk. We are also interested in how you have gone about enhancing and developing your technical knowledge.
