Are you passionate about protecting us against natural threats and hazards and improving the environment?

We need an Operations Manager to lead our ongoing work to improve the resilience of Somerset to extreme weather events whilst protecting and enhancing large areas of valuable habitat for the benefit of people and wildlife.

For a leader with drive and ambition this is great opportunity to improve the environment, reduce our environmental footprint through new ways of working and reduce carbon emissions.

This is a diverse role; as well as leading our operational work, you and your teams will prepare for and respond to environmental incidents, ranging from flooding or drought through to pollution events. This could be in Wessex or in support of others anywhere in the country. You will also enhance the Areas incident response capability by holding a senior incident management role.

To really make a difference for people and the environment we are looking for an enthusiastic, inspirational and kind person to lead our teams. Your work will be conducted in a high-freedom environment that makes the people you work with happier, focuses on health, safety and wellbeing, embraces emergent leadership and supports your own development.
Our highly skilled and committed Field Operations and Asset Performance teams ensure that FCRM assets perform; protecting people and property from flooding and supporting agriculture and habitat across Somerset.

The teams are responsible for the asset life cycle. Critical to this work is engaging with partners and the communities we serve.

During a flood event or environment incident, the teams operate to deliver the Environment Agency’s operational response in collaboration with our partners.
We are looking for applicants who believe that providing great leadership is fundamental to our ability to protect people and the environment.

You must be able to demonstrate passion for developing people, innovation in your thinking and the ability to deliver meaningful outcomes.

Your leadership in managing environmental risks and health, safety and wellbeing will be exemplary. Your ability to set clear outcomes and empower our staff to be their best is essential.

You will have practical experience of leadership and development including asset management and incident response.

A good understanding of civil engineering and/or asset management would also be advantageous.
To discuss any aspect of the role please contact Emma Baker on 07799 342154 or emma.baker@environment-agency.gov.uk before or on the 16 August 2022
