This role will be based at the Thames Barrier and qualifies for Inner London Weighting (£3776), in addition to the £28,785 base salary.

You will help the Thames Tidal Walls and Embankments Asset Performance Team manage the Tidal Thames Flood and Coastal Risk Management assets, reducing the risk of tidal flooding to London.

You will be trained and accredited in T98 Flood Risk Assessment Condition Inspection processes.

Responsibilities will include:
· Visually inspecting London’s statutory tidal flood walls and embankments
· Discussing flood defence maintenance issues with the defence owners and ensuring maintenance is completed to the required standard in a timely manner
· Working closely with our enforcement officer where flood defence owners fail to adequately maintain their assets
· Building a technical understanding of our asset inspection and enforcement processes

All asset inspectors are expected to ensure their activities are accomplished in accordance with Environment Agency Enforcement Guidelines and Health, Safety and Wellbeing policies. Full training will be provided.

There are also opportunities to be trained in an Incident Response role – These roles attract additional pay/allowances after a qualifying period (£3,673p.a. approximately, for £141.27 1 week in 2 standby).
The Tidal Walls and Embankments Asset Performance Team ensure the integrity of the Thames Tidal Defences on both shores of the Tidal Thames from Teddington to Dartford through an agreed programme of visual asset inspections, enforcement, third party works and delivery of Capital and Revenue programmes.

You will help the team monitor the condition of London’s tidal flood defences, through your visual inspections, and develop positive relationships with flood defence owners.
You will work closely with the team and flood defence owners to ensure assets are suitably maintained. Your attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to develop and maintain positive relationships will set you apart.

The ideal candidate will:

• have experience in civil or structural engineering
• communicate effectively in writing/in person and be able to relay technical information to non-technical people
• have excellent influencing with good customer engagement skills
• work well on their own/within a team
• work flexibly and manage workloads and meet tight deadlines
• understand current Health and Safety legislation
• be able to swim and work safely around water
• be a good driver and navigator
