We are the Environment Agency. We work with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to make our environment cleaner, safer, and healthier for people and wildlife. We tackle the effects and causes of climate change, perhaps the most serious long-term threat to the environment that we face.

In this role as a Level 1 Hydrometry and Telemetry officer you will provide accurate and timely hydrometric data to the Environment Agency and the wider public to support operational decisions, flood risk, and environment management.

You will be required to
• Validate data to a high standard using our database.
• Advance our monitoring ability by upgrading sites, calibrating and developing better monitoring networks.
• Produce reports and documentation from field investigations to a high standard to support our operational work.
• Develop effective relationships with partners and team members.
• Share knowledge with new staff by guiding, advising and supporting them in solving local problems.
• Monitor the progress of Hydrometry and Telemetry projects and provide solutions to problems, identifying gaps in our service which could be improved.
The Hydrometry and Telemetry are a dedicated and friendly team who provide core telemetry, hydrometric and hydrological data to the Environment Agency, in particular information on river level, flow, rainfall, and groundwater levels.

The team collects data across the Kent and South London Area and delivers a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency’s responsibilities relating to flood and costal risk management and water resource management.
Ideally you will have a scientific or engineering background and be experienced in designing, installing, and maintaining monitoring equipment.

You will possess:
• Experience in managing large quantities of data.
• Good knowledge of telemetry systems and confidence using environmental monitoring equipment is essential
• Well-developed practical problem-solving skills
• Willingness to work outside often in demanding weather conditions, all year round.
• A full UK driving Licence is essential
• Confidence in and around water and be able to swim 25m.
We value a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share, so please clearly include any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.

This role can be based at Tonbridge, Canterbury or our Rye Scots Float Depot.
